The Need to Have Complete Oral Exams

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB), July 23, 2014 – Princeview Dental (www.PrinceviewDental.com), one of Etobicoke’s premier dental clinics, is announcing the importance of having a complete oral exam.

“Oral exams should be done periodically by a dentist to ensure oral health care, as there are so many benefits to having an oral examination,” says Dr. Janice Mummery, founder of Princeview Dental. “Dentists are trained to detect things an untrained person is not able to see. Just by observing the inside of the mouth, we can assess the health of teeth and gums, predict possible oral health problems, and screen for oral cancer.”

Dr. Mummery explains that dentists are looking for specific indicators when performing a complete oral exam. Some of what dentists are looking for includes damaged teeth, early signs of cavities, and the condition of the gums. From there, the decision can be made whether to take preventative measures or act immediately to stop or fix whatever issue was discovered during the examination.

“Oral examinations also go beyond looking for current problems,” she adds. “An oral exam allows dental clinics full access to a patients’ medical history, making them aware of any prior health conditions that could currently affect how they proceed with their treatment.”

“Having access to the medical history is extremely important,” Dr. Mummery concludes. “A dental clinic needs to know general health concerns are currently present and possible medical issues from the past that would prevent them from performing present dental treatment or require the consideration of alternative treatments.”
