With it being one of the more deadly forms of cancer, raising awareness of the disease is one way to educate the country and prevent this disease from infecting thousands of Canadians every year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mummery explains that over 3,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed in Canada each year, with more than 1,000 of those cases ending in death. The high mortality rate is because oral cancer is often detected too late; people ignore bleeding or discomfort in their mouth more so than any other part of the body, when in fact it should be the reverse.
